Polaris might not have known every detail about Hellion or Sofia, but she was aware that the young Venezuelan woman had been one of many to lose her mutant abilities during the events of M-Day. Therefor, when light spiraled up Sofia's person and etched tribal patterns over her cheeks and brow, Lorna didn't foresee what came next. She had been expecting something surreal. Knowing who was behind this, and that Sofia had somehow been ensnared, no one ever came out on the other side unaltered.
Rather than metal implants, or displaying cybernetic abilities, though, something more ambient and primal had been created. Or, perhaps, recreated is the better term. There was a tensing in the air. Polaris's brow furrowed momentarily. Julian reached the conclusion to this new manifestation more quickly. "She has her powers back!" Lorna's expression smoothed in lax alarm. A force washed over the pair standing at the door, then gathered instantaneously in the corridors at their back.
Polaris looked over her shoulder. "... Crap," she muttered, in unison with Hellion. A packed wall of debris sealed their escape. Lorna was contemplating moving the materials - though wind was a powerful component to contend with, Polaris had direct control over the materials themselves, and, new and improved powers though Sofia had, she was still more tactful. That was when a miniature typhoon was loosed into the small laboratory.
Lorna stumbled backwards at the first bit of force, then widened her stance. A shield of magnetic force rippled, looking almost like sound waves made visible, around her, blocking the debris that were being sprayed up with such force they could have ravaged her bare skin. Hellion had done likewise already, which was the only reason that she didn't extend her defenses around him as well. Lorna glanced to him when he spoke.
There was a moment, however brief, where Polaris was going to protest. Where she was simply going to rock the room with a magnetic pulse that would throw Sofia against a wall hard enough to knock her out. Where she was going to grab all of the shrapnel in the air and make it a prison around the girl, incapacitating her. Where she was going to reverse the flow of Wind Dancer's blood for a moment by controlling the iron in it and cause her to pass out.
She didn't.
Though that would be a simple solution, something that Alex would have approved of, Polaris knew what this situation meant. Julian needed to do this alone. Not just for himself, either. But for Sofia. "Got it," she agreed. Lorna's eyes composed a film of emerald light. She straightened, trench coat and ponytail flapping madly in the wind. Hellion moved forward, and she created a tunnel of calm for him to traverse through. She didn't let anything but the wind touch him.

There was a... a haze...
A dark, numbing tarp that was weighing down her limbs and thoughts. Flashes of light broke up the din. Like lightning illuminating a thunderhead form within, the luminescence was muted and muffled. Distant, like every other sensation she could count. Everything but that haze, which was constant and permeated every facet of her being, every cell in her body, every thought she'd ever had.
The young woman tried to look at her hands, to make sure that she was there in body, but she could only make out a vague density whenever a light flared in the distance. There was a deep, rumbling voice that was speaking. She couldn't make out the phrases, though. Each syllable was elusive, carried as a whisper on the miasma that enshrouded her.
Every time the woman tried to determine one word, she'd forget the last that she'd managed translate. A flash of bright green light flared right in front of the woman, causing her to teeter back in the haze. Sofia... She blinked several times. That word... There was something familiar to it... Sofia, she thought to herself. Like a memory, or word on the tip of her tongue, but it felt more important than something trivial like that.
The whispered baritone in the haze grew more insistent. Quicker. Trying to drown out the voice that came with each muted flare of emerald light. There was something there. She felt like she was on a precipice. A dam about to break. There just needed to be more. One last push. Julian... It's me... Julian. The haze was torn asunder.
In the material world, the light faded from Sofia's eyes. Because that's what her name was. Sofia. And the boy with tousled raven hair before her was Julian. The wind in the room settled ever-so-slightly. "Julian?" Wind Dancer's irises flickered with the light from before, and the gales increased. Then they reverted back to normal for a moment. "Julian... I..."
She didn't understand. The haze kept trying to swallow the scene. Was it a dream? A dream that she was floating before the young man that had been so important to her, seemingly with powers back. Everything that she wanted... It had to be a dream, right? At least, that's what the haze was whispering to her. No! Sofia threw aside the miasma, reasserting herself over the light filling her pupils a final time. "Julian! Help...!"
She reached for him, shivering with the struggle for her will. Sofia reached up to the single technological patch between her eyes. Her fingers dug around the edges and the light surrounding her turned crimson. Spindles of black electricity coursed over her body. Wind Dancer grit her teeth, and with one final effort she wrenched the patch off of her skin. The wind died instantaneously. Sofia collapsed, unsupported by the air, blacking out with a sigh of relief.

Julian Keller was mildly grateful for the fact that Polaris didn't oppose his terribly constructed, cheesy plan. Though he didn't realize it, both he and Lorna were going off the same gut feeling; that this was something Julian had to at least attempt alone, both for his sake and Sofia's. For some strange reason, it seemed to be the only logical solution in his eyes. Plus, he would have done it with or without Polaris' approval anyways.
Though it was a whole lot easier to approach Sofia without the fear of being whacked by some random piece of metal. With only the wind to compensate for, Julian managed to fly within several feet of where Sofia was standing. He began to plead for her to come to her senses, in the desperate hope that his voice would somehow cajole the real Sofia back to the land of the living.
And, ridiculously enough, it was beginning to work. Hellion stopped trying to enforce his will on the mini tornado when he realized that it was getting weaker without his help. His eyes darted over to Sofia, and they widened slightly in disbelief as he saw the pale blue light that had been shining from her eyes falter somewhat, her beautiful brown irises peeking through the haze. And then she said his name.
"Sofia," Julian repeated, a silly grin immediately plastering itself on his face. He was getting through to her! She had said his name! ...Though, the fluctuations in the air were proving to be rather taxing to compensate for. The grin faltered on the telekinetic's face as he struggled to keep himself in the relatively same position in the air while the wind lessened and strengthened at erratic intervals. He couldn't keep from wobbling a bit, focused as he was on Sofia.
She was reaching out to him now, calling for help. Without even thinking about it, Hellion floated ever closer to her, found his nonorganic hand stretching towards her own. "That's right, beautiful. Fight it!" he urged, his brow furrowing in concern over his glowing green eyes. His gaze followed the path of Sofia's hand as it reached for her forehead, grabbed the patch between her eyes, and wrested it off of her body.
"Sofia!" Julian yelped, a shock of fear spasming through his body as black lightning crackled over Sofia's skin. As soon as the patch was off and Sofia began to fall, Julian was there. Outstretched hands, glowing slightly with telekinetic energy, caught the young woman before she hit the ground. "I'm here, beautiful. I'm here," Julian whispered, brushing a stray lock of hair out of Sofia's face. He crouched on the ground for a few more moments, simply enjoying the sensation of holding her in his arms again. And then he remembered he had an audience.
Blinking as if coming out of a trance, the green glow left Julian's eyes and body and simply focused around his hands as he looked to Polaris. He stood up, Sofia laying comfortably across his arms, and walked over to the Mistress of Magnetism. "I...thank you," he managed to choke out, the corner of his lips twitching in a sad imitation of gratitude. Clearing his throat, Hellion added, "We should get Sofia to the Jean Grey School. Or somewhere nearby where she'll get good care. Whatever's closest."

Defending against the fervent wind within the room was more challenging than Polaris had originally supposed. There was a moment when she first erected the parameters of her barriers when Lorna's lip twitched once in recognition of the strength of the wind. After that singular moment, however, Polaris need only grasp the metal materials of the laboratory with confidence, defining the margins of her will in the tunnel that quickly compiled around Julian. She understood why Hellion needed to do this, and she was going to let him try, and make it as easy as possible for him to succeed.
Lorna stood her ground, eyes glimmering with emerald light, ponytail thrashing violently in the wind that tore over the scene. She saw what happened. Watched as Julian got close enough to speak to Sofia, then the struggle that ensued as the young woman strove to combat whatever terrible influence was on her mind, Hellion encouraging her, half-earnest, half-pleading all the while. Polaris was impressed. They didn't have to resort to taking Sofia on physically to subdue her.
Was Julian's tone so annoying that it cut through whatever mind-manipulating agents and machines were at work on Wind Dancer?
Truth to tell, the whole ordeal was over fairly quick. Lorna blinked once when Sofia purged herself of the device rooted on her brow, and went limp. The wind died immediately, and Julian rushed forward to catch Wind Dancer as the air ceased supporting her weight. Polaris's glance lingered just long enough to ensure that Hellion had the girl in his grasp, then she turned her back on them.
Rather than act as an awkward third party to the moment, Lorna busied herself with the barricade of debris that had blocked them in. At the same moment, Polaris employed all of her senses - power-related, or simple instinct, governed over years of application as a super heroin - to ensure that there was no hostile force in the lab. Tentatively assured that there was no immediate danger to the three of them, Lorna dispelled the blockage on the laboratory, and was turning just in time to watch Julian approach her.
"Of course," she said with gently dismissive gratitude. She knew how hard it was for Hellion to say what he had, and wasn't going to rub it in his face, or make him suffer longer than he already had. Polaris's gaze narrowed as she watched Sofia, apparently unconscious, in Hellion's arms. "You need to get her to the school. That's the best place for her. They can make sure nothing more... lingering has been done to her in this place."
Lorna looked back to the metallic corridor before her. "I'll contact the X-Men and wait here for a team to arrive. We need to know who's behind this, and how many others could have been affected."
